Interviews Questions for Switches

By : Unknown

What is a Network Switch?
To understand basic networking, you first need to answer the question, "What is a network switch?"
Most business networks today use switches to connect computers, printers and servers within a building or campus. A switch serves as a controller, enabling networked devices to talk to each other efficiently. Through information sharing and resource allocation, switches save businesses money and increase employee productivity.
Understand the different types of Ethernet switches and their capabilities.
What is a Network Switch: Unmanaged Switches?
An unmanaged switch works right out of the box. It's not designed to be configured, so you don't have to worry about installing or setting it up correctly. Unmanaged switches have less network capacity than managed switches. You'll usually find unmanaged switches in home networking equipment.
What is a Network Switch: Managed Switches?
A managed network switch is configurable, offering greater flexibility and capacity than an unmanaged switch. You can monitor and adjust a managed switch locally or remotely, to give you greater network control.
What is a Network Switch versus a Router?
Switches create a network. Routers connect networks. A router links computers to the Internet, so users can share the connection. A router acts as a dispatcher, choosing the best path for information to travel so it's received quickly.
What is a Network Switch to My Business?

Switches and routers are the building blocks for all business communications, from data to voice and video to wireless access. They can improve profitability by enabling your company to increase productivity, trim business expenses, and improve security and customer service.

Network Troubleshooting using PING, TRACERT, IPCONFIG, and NSLOOKUP COMMANDS

By : Unknown

Hello everyone today I will show some commands to our network troubleshooting. These commands are very common commands use in network troubleshoot.

1.    IPCONFIG :- Ipconfig commands is using to check the IP address and MAC address in our computer. It give the basic information of DHCP, DNS server IP address. This commands will show Ethernet local area connection. That is show IP address, Subnet Mask and default Geteway address. The Geteway address is your router address.
2.      PING:- Ping commands is the subset of ICMP ( internet control messenger protocol) and it is called echo request. If your device is active then you will receive echo response.
3.    TRACERT:- Tracert let you see, the step by step route a packet takes the destination you specify.
4.    NSLOOKUP:- this commands will fetch the DNS records for a given domain name and IP address. Remember the IP address and domain name restore in DNS server, so the nslookup commands lets you query the DNS Records to gather information.

What is Domain Name System (DNS)

By : Unknown

This is most impodent Question of server (what is DNS).

DNS stands for Domain Name Server. These are the servers that match up a fully qualified domain with the proper IP address. This is necessary because computers only understand the IP address for your domain (e.g.- 123.45.678.90).

Installing and setting up the first DNS server 2008 R2

Installing a Domain Name System (DNS) server involves adding the DNS server role to an existing Windows Server 2008 server. You can also install the DNS server role when you install the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) role. This is the preferred method for installing the DNS Server role if you want to integrate your DNS domain namespace with the AD DS domain namespace.

Creating forward lookup zones and zone type (standard primary)

When the Domain Name System (DNS) server role is installed as part of creating a domain controller by installing Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), the forward lookup zones that are required to support the domain are automatically created. Creating a forward lookup zone is only necessary when you create a DNS server that is not running on a domain controller or if you need to create a DNS domain that is not part of your Active Directory domain structure.

Creating the first host (A) record for the first DNS server

After you have created forward lookup zone in DNS, if you have not configured dynamic updates, you are required to create Host (A) records manually. Host (A) records ensure that the computer name resolves correct IP address and helps other computers to locate the machine over the network. While creating Host (A) records in DNS Forward Lookup Zone you can also create PTR Pointer records automatically if Reverse Lookup Zone in DNS server is configured.

Introduction to Cloud Computing

By : Unknown

Cloud Computing is a design philosophy that breaks the Operating System and Applications from the Hardware
Web Applications
Are Created in Web Programming Languages
Generally Use Databases to Store Data
Clusters
Are Generally Used for Database Servers (MySQL, Microsoft Active Directory)
Load is balanced between servers in a cluster. If one server fails the cluster responds by not sending traffic to it.
Servers maintain the same data by using replication
Terminal Services
Based off of old Mainframe and Dumb Terminal Architecture
Now You Use Terminal Services Servers and Thin Clients
Thin Clients can be Hardware Devices or Software installed on a computer
All processing happens on Terminal Services Server and the Thin Client simply gets a "Window" into the server.
Example: http://www.ncomputing.com/
Application Servers
Uses Terminal Services but instead of providing a full Environment it only delivers a specific Application.
Virtualization
Uses Desktop Clients Software or Hypervisors to allow you to install multiple Operating Systems on to one physical server.
Hypervisors
i. Hypervisor is installed on the physical hardware to support the Operating Systems, and Management Software is used to configure each Virtual Machine, or Instance.
ii. VMWare uses ESXi as the Hypervisor and vSphere for the Management Software
Hosted Instances
Examples: Amazon EC2 , Microsft Azure
You Pay for Use (Storage Amount, CPU Power, RAM, Bandwidth)
Edge Locations are used by some providers to allow for faster access to servers over the Internet. You may be charged to send data from the main servers to the Edge Servers
Hosted Solutions
Are pieces of software that are hosted by vendors using the Cloud (Hosted Exchange, Google Docs, Adobe Acrobat.com, Mozy)
Public vs. Private Clouds
The Public Cloud is Cloud Computing used from Online Vendors
Private Clouds are environments on business/organization property that use Cloud Technologies.
Final Thoughts....
Security... Most Small Business Security is poor. Security for most small to medium sized business will be better when systems are hosted in the cloud
Local and Internet Bandwidth becomes more important with Cloud Computing. Even on the LAN you may end using all of your bandwidth.
